Is there anything more boring than laundry? Not only doing the laundry but talking about it? Have no fear because ShopRTO can make the oh-so-boring topic of laundry interesting.
A recent competition by eYeka set forth a contest to help revolutionize how we clean our clothes? Why? Because 1/4 of a household’s water supply is used for cleaning clothes. And the amount of water needed to clean clothes means millions of gallons of the detergent’s toxic chemicals infiltrating the water supply. So here are some interesting ideas set forth by innovators throughout the world.
1. Preventative Detergent – It would be like a spray that would create a protective layer so clothes could not get dirty in the first place.
2. Detergent Stickers – The point is that only portions of your clothes get dirty so only wash those. It’s like post-it note of detergent that would reduce significantly the amount of detergent used.
3. Gamification – How this has anything to do with helping save water or detergent, I’m not sure but it is interesting design idea and could actually make cleaning clothes fun. The design of the washing machine would be a circular drum where you would throw your clothes and detergent balls into the machine as if shooting a basketball. You would never know it was a washing machine so could be put anywhere and, if they’re smart, would come with it’s own scoreboard and “cheering” recording.
4. Electronic balls – These are re-usable, mobile deviced-controlled electronic balls that release the exact amount of detergent according to water displacement at the exact time based on water temperature in the wash to maximize the efficiency and minimize the waste.
Everything in our homes and lives are being revolutionized right in front of our eyes. Even laundry. So, next time you’re throwing your rolled up socks from the 3 point line in your home into your washing machine, remember that someone won a cash prize for an idea you have already been executing for years.
Just another ShopRTO odd-ball laundry news factoid.
